How to Land Your Next $10 000 Web Design Job

On today’s show, we talk about how you can give yourself a competitive edge over your competition when tendering for a job and charge more in the process. We talk about how we land big web design jobs, and why having the confidence to charge more than most other web developers can actually work out not only better for us, but also better for our clients.

Some of the key things to take away from this podcast are:

  • Fish Where the Fish Are: Make sure you are networking with and pitching to potential clients that are prepared to spend a decent amount of money on their website.
  • Believe It, and You Can Achieve It. Believing you can provide more value than other web developers, and making a committment to do so, can go a long way to helping you land the bigger jobs, as potential clients tend to be influenced by your confidence to do the job.
  • Put on a Show. Your sales process is essential to winning the bigger jobs. Work hard to develop client/potential-client relationships, show them that you have researched their industry and demonstrate that you know what you are talking about. Be prepared to answer objections and don’t be coy about askling for their business.

That’s all for now, Enjoy the show!

Chelsea McLean Interview Being Edited Now

We’re currently editing the Chelsea McLean interview - will post that up in the morning - some great info from Chelsea.

From our survey:

Question - do you rehearse the Podcasts? The conversations beween Brendan and Tina sound very natural, yet they flow in a logical manner. There never seems to be any awkward silences or fluffing of lines.”

Answer: No, we don’t rehearse the show beforehand. We spend 5-10 minutes discussing the topic and what direction we might go in. But to ensure the show does flow and does sound natural we simply go with the flow where it takes us at the time.

I’ve noticed that over time we’ve become much more fluent and think a little quicker on our feet.

Chelsea McLean Interview Set For Next Wednesday

Next week we’ll be interviewing brilliant publicist Chelsea McLean.

Chelsea is one of my city’s leading boutique publicists and has done work for us before. Work that has simply blown away any result we’ve ever got from advertising.

Chelsea McLeanWe’re recording the interview on Wednesday so will post it on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning (depending on how long it will take to edit).

Chelsea has some fantastic tips for getting publicity for small to medium businesses with a tight budget - like they say in those cheesy commercials, if there is one interview you should listen to this year, it’s this one!

Next Podcast Jan 11, 2006

The next TailoredPodcast.com’s “Brendon Sinclair’s Business Mix” will be on January 11, 2006.

This has been put back a couple of days after Brendon decided to break some ribs playing tennis of all things. He’s currently having trouble talking for longer than 2 minutes, but assures me he’ll be right for Wednesday.

All the best for the new year to all listeners.
